This chart applies the 2013 US governments calculation for the "social cost of carbon" (SCC) to Canadian emissions and the Alberta oilsands. Canada isn't cutting CO2 fast enough to overcome the fact that the damage to society from each tonne of CO2 increases over time. Even if Canada meets their Copenhagen target the "monetized damage" to society from their CO2 will have increased. Meanwhile the Alberta oilsands plan to increase carbon extraction to five times 2005 levels by 2030. The resulting damage to society from that much carbon would approach $60 billion a year.
