BC Energy Today: mostly private, mostly dirty by Barry Saxifrage
The vast majority of BC energy production is dirty, climate destabilizing fossil fuels. BC Coal is all exported. BC Oil production peaked years ago and is a tiny fraction of demand. BC produces three times more Natural Gas than it consumes. 90% of BC energy production is by private industry and less than 10% is publicly owned electricity. Cutting BC ghg emissions by 80% as required by law will require either that the private energy production industry is shut down or that it is transformed to clean energy production.
